A Double Bereavement.

The death of Mrs. Hyla A. HUGHES in this city the 5th inst. has been followed by the death of her daughter and the last member of the family, Mrs. Frank GILMER, who passed away Saturday evening. Mrs. GILMER was ill little more than a week, and her death was doubtless due to over-exertion in the care of the mother. Susie K. GILMER was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John HUGHES and was born in Campbellsville, Ken., where she grew to womanhood, January (sic - June) 23d, 1861. She was married to Frank GILMER October 27th, 1891, and was the mother of seven children, five of whom, all of tender years, survive her. Mrs. GILMER became a member of the Cumberland Presbyterian church in early life and lived consistently with its teachings. She was a superior woman in many ways, and, while confined to her home closely by domestic affairs during her residence here, she formed many acquaintances who soon learned the charm of her manner and recognized her tenderness of heart and excellences of character. Many hearts will go out to the husband and family in their sorrow. Funeral services were held at the GILMER home on East Burlington street Monday afternoon, conducted by Rev. A. R. Adams, and the body was interred in the Evergreen cemetery.

Mr. GILMER and members of the family wish to express their sincere thanks to the friends and neighbors who have rendered them so many kindnesses in their time of sorrow.
