GEO. GILCHRIST DIED TODAY

Well Known Resident Succumbs to Pneumonia This Morning.

George GILCHRIST, a well known resident of Fairfield died at one o'clock this morning at his home on South Fourth street. Death was due to pneumonia from which he had been suffering only a few days. He had been in poor health for the past nine years, previous to which time he had been actively engaged as a contractor and builder.

Mr. GILCHRIST was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph GILCHRIST and was born in Westmoreland county, Pa., July 28, 1847. Thirty nine years ago he came to Birmingham, Iowa, and has lived in or near Fairfield with the exception of a short time spent in Missouri in the early '70's. He is survived by three brothers and one sister. They are Archibald GILCHRIST, Fairfield; David GILCHRST (sic) Birmingham, John GILCHRIST, Cochran's Mills, Pa.; and Mrs. Sarah BAILEY, Fairfield.

George GILCHRIST married Miss Katherine DONALDSON near Fairfield on January 25, 1871, and his death therefore followed closely on the /fortieth anniversary of the wed-/ (note: text between slashes is printed inverted) ding. The children are Charles D. and Harry A., both of Kansas City, Mo., and Mrs. George KING and Mrs. A. H. MESSER of Farifield.

He was a member of the Presbyterian church, his parents having been Scotch Presbyterians and prominent in church affairs.

The funeral will be held from his late residence at 2:30 Saturday afternoon and will be conducted by Rev. W. W. Montgomery. Burial will be at Evergreen cemetery.
