LIFE OF MRS. WM. GIFFORD

Elvona DEARMIN was born in Henry county, Iowa, August 1, 1869. Here she lived while growing into young womanhood. She was married on December 14th, 1892, to Mr. William GIFFORD and began the keeping of their home in Libertyville. To them were born two girls, Helen and Mary. Helen is now Mrs. Wallace CAMPBELL of Douds. For a number of years they made their home in Fairfield, up until two years ago when Mr. GIFFORD bought a business in Bloomfield, hence their home was changed. Her mother, Mrs. John CAMMACK, her sister Mrs. D. E. CRAIL, and half-brother Samuel BAUGHNER, live in Fairfield. Several years ago she became a Christian and united with the Fairfield Christian church. Her membership was transferred to Bloomfield two years ago. It was not her privilege to attend church very much but when ever she was able she was in attendance and often when she was not able she carried out her desire and went. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge.

For a number of years she has been a sufferer, submitting to two operations. Through it all she has been so patient, even more patient, than one could expect. She wanted to live so badly and fought the battle for life so heroically. Her place in life was not small and she she (sic) so wanted to fill that place living for her husband and children. Although she wanted to live she was willing and ready to depart. Her suffering was so intense as to make death a welcome guest.

She passed away in Bloomfield, on Wednesday morning, Aug. 15th, aged 48 years and 14 days. She leaves a husband, two children, her mother and sister who were with her much and cared for her so well, her brother and many friends. Funeral services were held at the D. E. CRAIL home in Fairfield, Friday afternoon, Aug. 17, at 2 o'clock, conducted by her pastor, Geo. C. Purdy, assisted by Rev. R. H. Polly of the local Christian church, in the presence of a large number of friends, and burial was in Evergreen cemetry (sic).
