Page 7, Column 3Died from the Effects of an Operation.
Another death as the result of a surgical operation has robbed a home in Fairfield of a wife and mother, and the world of a good woman. This statement is not made as a reflection, but simply as a fact. Mrs. T. J. GILBERT, who came here with her husband some three or four years ago, was the unfortunate woman. For two or more years she had been afflicted with the growth of a fibroid tumor of the uterus, and it had finally come to such a state that an operation seemed advisable and indeed imperative if she was to have any hope for life. She therefore went to Keokuk and on Thursday of last week submitted to an operation by Dr. Maxwell. She is reported to have rallied very favorable from the effects of the operation, but began to sink afterwards and on Friday died. The remains were brought here on Saturday and on Sunday the funeral occurred at the home, Rev. Schreiner, her pastor, officiating. She leaves her husband and one child, a little boy eight or ten years old.
