FORMER LOCAL BOY KILLED IN FRANCE

1st Lieut. Walter E. GIBSON, former local boy, son of J. E. GIBSON and the late Mrs. GIBSON of Davenport, has been reported killed in action in France, June 11. His father is awaiting further details.

Lt. GIBSON, a member of the U. S. mechanized unit is the nephew of Mrs. Daisy GILBERT, George W. and Charles A. GIBSON and Mrs. Eleanor KENDALL all of this vicinity. He arrived in England last fall. The family moved to Davenport when Walter was about 10 years old.

Note: Buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, IA, in Lot 3rd.052. He was the son of Joseph E. and Ada M. MILLER GIBSON. He shares the lot with his mother Ada who died in 1943; father Joseph is buried with his second wife in Davenport, IA. Walter's gravestone notes that he was awarded the Purple Heart Medal for his valor and meritorious service.
