LibertyvilleElmer "Jim" SCHAFER, age 72 of Libertyville, passed away Sunday, July 16, 2023, at the Jefferson County Health Center.
A celebration of life service is 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 21, 2023, at Behner Funeral Home with Pastor Danny Cary officiating. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow the service at Milton Cemetery (sic - Sunnyside Cemetery in Milton, IA).
Memorials may be made to American Heart Association and mailed to Carrie SCHAFER, 503 Fairfield Road, Libertyville, IA 52567.
Jim was born December 5, 1950, to Howard Lee and Elizabeth (RESCHLY) SCHAFER. He married Carrie Louise POE on July 17, 2010.
Jim served in the Navy as a mechanic and retired after 20 years of service. After retiring form the Navy, he worked as a mechanic for Waste Management and at Walmart stocking shelves.
Jim loved being outside riding his motorcycle or working in his flower garden. He collected semi-trucks and Chopper Motorcycle models. Some of Jim's other interests were playing games on ihs phone, watching Sci-Fi channel, old cartoons and putting together Thomas Kinkade puzzles.
Jim will be missed by his wife, Carrie of Libertyville; his children, Charlene GRIFFITH of Virginia Beach, VA, Eric (Sara) PALMER of Cedar Rapids, Ashton (Shea and Neva) and Cory (Melissa) PALMER both of Fairfield; 21 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; his siblings, Artie (Cathy) SCHAFER, Leo (Nancy) SCHAFER, Lee (Georgia) SCHAFER and Linda (Dwayne) MOORE; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Elizabeth; son, Tommy SCHAFER; sister, Marylee SCHAFER; and his beloved dog Buckwheat.
