MICHAEL "MIKE" SHONDEL
Fairfield

Michael "Mike" SHONDEL, age 78 of Fairfield, passed away Friday, May 12, 2023, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA).

Mike was born October 5, 1944, in Fairfield to Clyde and Grace (DENNISON) SHONDEL. He married Cindy HECKETHORN on April 29, 1967. Cindy passed away February 2, 2017, a few months before there (sic) 50th anniversary.

Mike was leadman in the Maintenance Department at Iowa Malleable until they closed, and then continued working at Dexter. Mike enjoyed camping, traveling, bowling, playing cards, collected bears and going to NASCAR races. Most important was spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mike's love for children carried by he and Cindy's being foster parents.

Mike will be missed by his three children, Mickey (Tim) LEE and John (Annette) SHONDEL, both of Mt. Pleasant, and Penny SISLER of Fairfield; six grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; siblings, Albert, Doug and Larry SHONDEL, all of Fairfield; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Grace SHONDEL; wife, Cindy SHONDEL; many siblings, Fred, Anna, Ella, Mable, Jr., Charlotte, Tina, Sherry, Herbie, Bobby and Debbie.

Visitation for family and friends will be 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at Behner Funeral Home. Cremation will follow the visitation.

Memorial service will be 10:00 am, Thursday, May 18, 2023, at Behner Funeral Home with Pastor Chris Paul officiating. Burial of cremains will be at a later date. The service will be live streamed at Behner Funeral Home Crematory Facebook page.

A memorial has been established with cards and memorials mailed to Penny SISLER, 110 South 17th Street, Fairfield, IA 52556.
