Note: There was no obituary published in the "Southeast Iowa Union / Fairfield Ledger" for James; however, Lensing Funeral Home published an obituary on their website, and this posting is an extraction of that.

James P. 'Jim' SANDROCK was born March 5, 1929, in Waterloo, IA, the son of Wilfred P. and Janet (TOWNSLEY) SANDROCK. Jim married Donna GOW in 1951 in Fairfield, and they had a daughter, Johanna. Donna died in 2000, and in 2003 Jim married Jean CUTLER PRIOR in Louisiana. He served in the Air Force and was stationed in Germany, where he studied the German language. On returning to Iowa, he obtained Masters and Doctorate degrees in German Language and Literature. He then taught 40 years at the U of I as a professor. He was also an active birder. Surviving is his wife Jean of Iowa City; daughter Johanna of Vienna, Austria; niece Ellen (Bill) MACKEY; nephews Fred (Stephanie) KOCH and Jim (Laura) KOCH. Also preceding Jim was a sister, Joan KOCH. Jim passed away at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City, IA, on June 6, 2022, at the age of 93. He chose to be cremated, with private services and burial at Evergreen Cemetery in Fairfield, IA; he is inurned in Lot 2nd.053 with his first wife, Donna.
