Robert William Russell, 61, of 2189 257th St., died Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

The service is tentatively scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Fairfield Friends Church with the Rev. Dave Elmore.

Visitation is tentatively scheduled from 6-8 p.m. Monday at Behner Funeral home.

Robert Russell
August 22, 2005

Robert William Russell, 61 of 2189 257th St., died at 6:20 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2005, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

The funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Fairfield Friends Church with the Rev. Dave Elmore officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 6:30-8 p.m. today at Behner Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the family.

Mr. Russell was born May 17, 1944, in Newton, the son of Francis G. and Donna Gilmore Russell. He was married Judy Beyer Ogier for 25 years. He later married ZoeAnn Dixson Nov. 16, 1991, in Boone.

Mr. Russell graduated from Newton Senior High School in 1962. He worked for Ham's DX in Newton before owning his own service station in 1966. He owned and operated Russell's DX service stations in Grinnell, Des Moines, Newton, Mitchellville and Altoona, and Valley DX in West Des Moines.

Mr. Russell was service manager for Dick Hazelbaker Chevrolet in Des Moines and Dailey Motors in Decorah, before joining Pat Clemons, Inc. in Boone and later in Fairfield. He was service manager at Clemons Auto Group for 26 years and belonged to the Only The Best Club for service managers, receiving numerous awards during his career.

Mr. Russell was Scout Master in 2001 for Boy Scouts of America. He was a Mason, as well as a member of Fairfield Eagles Lodge 1927 and the Mitchellville Jaycees.

Survivors include his wife, ZoeAnn; one daughter, Debbie Hackathorn and husband Todd of Newton; one son, Nicholas Russell of Fairfield; and one stepson, Robert Eschliman and wife Sharla of Sheldon; two granddaughters; and two stepgranddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.
