Martha J. McCartney was born in Bourbon Co., Ky. Sept 18 1823 and died at her home in Libertyville Aug 31 1898. She was the daughter of Noah and Catharine Bivens. When quite young she removed with her parents to Springfield, Ill., the home of Abe Lincoln. Early in the 40’s she came to Iowa and soon afterward went to the Osage Indian reservation in Missouri. There she married Abner Hill, July 1842. Three children were born to this union, viz: John, Caroline and Ebzina. During the month of May 1852, her husband died, leaving her with the care of three small children. Shortly afterward she came to Libertyville and, July 14, 1857, she was united in marriage with W. R. McCartney. To this union the following children: W. W.; George, James, Alice and Albert. Sept 17 1897 W. R. McCartney passed away and she was left a widow a second time.....Remains laid to rest in the Fell Cemetery.
