M. Maxene Eaton, 89, of Topeka, Kan., formerly of Ottumwa, died at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2005, at Lexington Park Nursing Facility in Topeka.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Reece Funeral Home in Ottumwa, with the Rev. Dick Kessler officiating. Burial will be in Friends Cemetery in Richland.

Visitation will begin at 4 p.m. Thursday, with the family present from 7-9 p.m. Thursday.

Memorials may be made to Tenco.

Mrs. Eaton was born Nov. 29, 1915, in Ottumwa, the daughter of Lester and Mantie Ellen Smith Van Dyke. She married Floyd Eaton Sept. 17, 1941, in Kansas City, Mo. He died July 22, 1997.

She was a graduate of William Penn College and Iowa Success School. She worked for 19 years at the Ottumwa Courier, retiring in 1979.

Survivors include one son, Floyd "Butch" Eaton and wife Kathy of Topeka; one daughter, Susan Eaton of Anaheim, Calif; two grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; and five step-great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Heth.
