Note: Buried initially in the Fairfield Abbey, a mausoleum which stood in what is now the 6th Addition to Evergreen Cemetery, Fairfield, IA. The mausoleum developed structural problems in the 1960s and those interred there were moved out; John was re-interred in Evergreen Cemetery, in Lot 2nd.208½. Some variations of the surname exist - GASSOWAY in his obituary, but GASAWAY on his gravestone. The surname is GASAWAY in the 1850, 1860, and 1900 Federal Censuses, where John is noted as age 3, age 11, and age 50 respectively. His gravestone indicates he was born in 1849, and the 1900 census notes he was born in December, 1849. He was the son of Benjamin and Elizabeth HOLICLAW (perhaps HOLSCLAW?) GASAWAY.
