OBITUARY

MRS. ALBERT R. GARDNER

Mary Catherine LORING was born to Thomas and Mary Elizabeth LORING February 17, 1862, at Boswell, Indiana. She passed away May 17, 1930, at their farm home near Bonaparte, Iowa, at the age of 68 years and 3 months. She was united in marriage to Albert R. GARDNER, August 24, 1880, at Fairfield, Iowa, and lived happily in this union. Had she been spared another three months the rounding out of the 50 years would have been celebrated and plans were already being made to observe the anniversary. To the union were born twelve children, five daughters and seven sons. Her devoted husband is left to mourn her passing. All of the twelve children survive excepting George Arthur who passed away in infancy August 2, 1882. The surviving children are Jesse M. GARDNER and Mrs. Ray CHURCH of Bonaparte, Iowa; Guy at Stockport; Mrs. T. T. STUCKEY of Fairfield, Ia.; John and Thomas of Fort Madison; Mrs. Clifford E. TAYLOR of Marshalltown, Ia.; Mrs. Raymond E. GRANT of Fairfield, Ia.; Robert L. GARDNER and Mrs. Ivor TURLEY of Grinnell, Iowa, and Albert R. Jr. of Fairfield, Iowa. She leaves thirty-one grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Five brothers survive, John C. LORING of Ottumwa, Iowa; H. L. LORING of Fairfield, Iowa; S. H. LORING of Ottumwa, Ia.; Albert L. LORING of Chicago, Ill., and Harry E. LORING of Des Moines, Ia. One brother, I. N. LORING, and one sister, Mrs. A. L. DOUD, have preceded her in death.

Her life was signalized by her devotion and love for her husband, her home and her children and her ever readiness to help her friends and neighbors in sickness, sorrow and death. In all ways she was a true mother and loved to serve her community wherever opportunity offered.
