MRS. ANDREW GANTZ DIED YESTERDAY

One of the older and most highly respected residents of this city, Mrs. Andrew GANTZ, passed away yesterday morning at 9 o'clock at her home at 704 West Burlington street.

Mrs. GANTZ suffered a stroke of paralysis about four years ago and nas (sic) been in very poor health since and has been gradually failing until yesterday, wehn (sic) the end came.

Mary Ellen CANADAY was the daughter of Christopher and Elizabeth CANADAY and was born in Ohio on Feb. 14th, 1837. When only three years of age the family moved to Iowa and settled in Jefferson county locating near Brookville. Here the greater part of her life has been spent with the exception of the years the family have lived in Fairfield. On January 29th, 1857, at Brookville, she was united in marriage to Andrew GANTZ, who is left to mourn her loss. To this union ten children were born. Four have preceded their mother in death: Cora May, who died in infancy, and Mrs. Florence ASHMEAD, Lola M. and Edward. The following six children survive: John GANTZ of Dayton, Wash.; Major Charles GANTZ, who is in South Dakota at present; Harry GANTZ, of Brookville; Wm. GANTZ and Mrs. Ida SNIDER of Clarks, Neb., and Mrs. Myrtle MILLANE of Wymore, Neb. She also leaves two brothers, Hugh H. CANADAY of Ottumwa, and Lewis CANADAY, of West Liberty.

Mrs. GANTZ has long been a faithful member of the Methodist church and throughout her life lived in accordance with its teachings. She was always a devoted mother and wife and was a woman who made many friends.

No arrangements have as yet been made for the funeral until the arrival of the children this evening, but it will probably be held some time Wednesday.
