Death of John GANTZ.

John GANTZ, and old resident of Fairfield and Jefferson county, died at his home in this city Wednesday (note: February 8th), after a protracted illness. Deceased was a native of Washington county, Pennsylvania, and was in the eighty-sixth year of his age. His early years were spent in his native state, and when a young man he removed to Ohio. He was married there to Mahala SHAFFER a year or so later, and his aged wife survives him. Six children were the issue of this marriage, four of whom are yet living--J. S. and Andrew GANTZ in this county, Mrs. Martha DEARDUFF in Burlington, and John T. GANTZ in Omaha, Neb. The family removed to this county in 1851 and located on a farm near Brookville. The parents resided there continuously until their removal to this city about twelve years ago. John GANTZ was a man of the strictest honesty and integrity, and he bore the good will and esteem of all who knew him during his life in this county. In earlier years he was honored with many places of honor and trust in the community in which he resided, and he discharged all their duties, as well as those of man and citizen, in a most worthy and creditable manner. The funeral occurred in this city Friday. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. G. W. Reinking of the Baptist church, with which denomination Mr. GANTZ had been connected since early manhood.
