DEATHS

John GANTZ, 307 West Washington street, died this morning at 10:30 at the University hospital in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA). He had been seriously ill only a short time. The body will be returned to Fairfield to the Hoskins Funeral home.

John GANTZ Rites Will be Saturday At Hoskins Home

The funeral of John GANTZ will be held at the Hoskins Funeral home at 3:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon, with the Rev. S. P. Williamson in charge. The body will be taken to the GANTZ home on West Washington street, this afternoon, but will be returned to the funeral home Saturday noon.

OBITUARY

JOHN A. GANTZ

John Andrew GANTZ, eldest of eight children, son of Levi and Sarah PAUL GANTZ, pioneers of Jefferson county, was born near Lone Pine in Washington Co., Pennsylvania November 20, 1854.

When he was three years of age, the parents came to Iowa where they settled on a farm in Blackhawk township in Jefferson county, the part on which they first settled still being in his possession. All of his life has been in this community.

On April 20, 1888, he was married to Lizzie M. ABRAHAM. Six children were born to them, two of whom died in infancy. The surviving loved ones are his wife, four children; Mrs. Ira BONNETT, Mrs. Marie GRAUEL Glenn Paul and John Orivlle (sic - Orville) all of which reside in or near Fairfield; two grandchildren which were the delight of his declining years are John Keith GANTZ and Marjorie Louise BONNETT; three sisters, Mrs. S. A. COPELAND, Mae and Effie GANTZ; one nephew, J. Earl HEWETT (sic - HEWITT).

One grandchild, Bobby BONNETT preceded him in death, having passed away March 30, 1934.

He was a lover of children and had many little friends among his neighbors.

He had been in failing health for some time but was not taken seriously ill until a few days before his death at which time he was removed to Iowa City for treatment. He passed away in the University Hospital at 10:30 a.m. Aug. 23, 1934, at the age of 79 years and 9 months and 3 days.

Funeral services were held Sat. at 3:30 p.m. Rev. Williamson had charge of the service. Mrs. Albert Johnson, Mrs. Nowell (sic - Norvell) Switzer and Mrs. William Stever sang three selections. Interment was made in Evergreen Cemetery.
