Ernest C. FUQUA, 66, retired Dexter employe, died suddenly at 1:15 a.m. today in Unin station in Chicago. He was on his way to Hines Veterans hospital in Chicago for treatment.
FUQUA, 206 E. Jefferson St., left Fairfield last night by train and suffered an apparent heart attack shortly after his arrival at Union station.
Last rites will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Weston Behner Funeral Home in charge of Dr. J. Henry Teele. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery with military rites by the local American Legion post.
FUQUA retired from his work at the Dexter company April 1 after 33 years. He had been a resident of Fairfield for 38 years. He was born Dec. 10, 1891 (sic - 1890) at Pleasant Plain, the son of Frank and Sylvia NORTON FUQUA. He was married to Anna EASTON April 1, 1920.
FUQUA was a World War I veteran, serving overseas with the 90th U. S. Infantry division. He particiapted in the Argonne Meuse and St. Mihiel battles in 1918. He was a member of the First Methodist church, American Legion and International Association of Machinists.
He is survived by his wife, his mother, Sylvia FUQUA, Fairfield, a son, Don L. FUQUA, Fairfield, and a daughter, Mrs. Dean H. LUXFORD, Shelby. Also surviving are three grandchildren and three sisters, Mrs. Ray CORNELL and Mrs. Elsie REIGHARD (sic - RICKERD), both of Fairfield, and Mrs. Harry BONNETT, Ottumwa.
