AgencyMary Lynne MARLAY, formerly of Agency, passed away April 12, 2022 at Sunnybrook/Prestige Care Center in Fairfield, Iowa. She was 76 years old.
Mary Lynne was born on November 8, 1945, to Lieutenant Evan Levis and Mary McFARLAND SELSOR. On March 10, 1946, Lieutenant SELSOR was lost over the Pacific Ocean in his Corsair after a "hop" over China. On May 29, 1948, Leo BARCUS became Mary Lynne's Dad when he married her mother.
Mary Lynne was a graduate of Cardinal High School in 1963. She then went on to work for the Cardinal district later in life and retired from there after 31 years of service. Additionally, she had worked for the Southeast Iowa Blood Center and for Mrs. Bonser's Noodles.
She was an active member of the Agency United Methodist Church, where she took attendance and counted money every Sunday for many years. She also was formerly active in the Children's Ministry by teaching Sunday School, Kids Club and Bible School. She was a member of the Batavia Chapter of W.T.T.T (sic) for over 50 years.
Playing bridge and reading were her hobbies, but watching the activities of her children and her grandchildren was what she loved and enjoyed most. She attended many football, baseball, volleyball and softball games as well as bowling, cross country and golf meets. Band and chorus activities were among her favorites as well. All State Music and State Competitions for Golf, Bowling and Softball were among the highlights. She also kept the scorebook for the Pekin High School Softball team for 25 years until her granddaughters started competing in their own activities.
Mary Lynne is survived by two sons, Bryan (Linda) MARLAY of Fairfield, Iowa, and Brad (Jody) MARLAY of Crystal Lake, Illinois; three granddaughters, Kaylen, Taylor and Kylee; a sister-in-law, Lori BARCUS; and nieces and nephews, Amanda and William BARCUS, Mariah and Mitchell BARCUS.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers Chris and Dan BARCUS.
Her body has been cremated. Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Monday, April 18, at Reece Funeral Home. For those unable to attend, the service may be viewed live on the Reece Funeral Home Facebook page. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will be in the Agency Cemetery (note: in Wapello Co., IA).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Agency United Methodist Church, the Wounded Warrior Project or Hospice Compassus.
