Mildred FISCHER

Mildred FISCHER, 94, of 404 S. Fourth St., died at 10:25 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, 2001 at Jefferson County Hospital.

The funeral is tentatively scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday at First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 - 7:30 Friday at Raymond Funeral Home. Memorials have been established to Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary or to First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Mrs. FISCHER was born July 1, 1906, in Fairfield, the daughter of Orlando Lee and Floramel CHATTERTON HIATT. She married Robert Farrell FISCHER Feb. 18, 1928, in Fairfield. He died Nov. 2, 1977.

She grew up in the rural Fairfield community and graduated from Fairfield High School. She taught in the rural Jefferson County School and farmed with her husband prior to moving into Fairfield in 1951. She worked at Spurgeon Department Store for 20 years.

She was an active member of the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and its women's groups. She was a member of Jefferson County Hospital Auxiliary and worked in the auxiliary run Bargain Box. She also was a member of the VFW Auxiliary. Her hobbies included participating in bridge clubs and crafts, especially crocheting.

Survivors include two sons, Richard FISCHER and wife Elaine of Burlington and Ronald FISCHER and wife Sue of Fairfield; six grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Marjorie SCHIEDEL and husband Carl of Fairfield.

Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Virginia SCHUPICK; two grandchildren; and one brother, Alvin HIATT.
