A. R. FICKEL, 76, well known retired farmer, passed away at his home at 1000 South Main at 12:30 p.m. today.

FICKEL RITES HELD MONDAY

Funeral services were held yesterday for Alfred R. FICKEL, well-known retured farmer, who died suddenly Saturday at his home at 1000 S. Main street. He had been seriously ill for only a few days.

Last rites were held at the Weston Behner funeral home in charge of Dr. L. L. Weis. Burial was in Evergreen cemetery.

FICKEL was born near Stockport July 23, 1875, the son of Samuel W. and Nancy Jane WATSON FICKEL. He was married to Effie BONNETT in Fairfield March 27, 1901.

He spent all of his life in Van Buren and Jefferson counties and was an active farmer until he retired and moved to Fairfield in 1945. He served as a township officer in Cedar township for more than 30 years.

Survivors include his wife and he (sic) following children:

John R. FICKEL, Fairfield; Earl FICKEL, Batavia; Mrs. Hubert HOLLANDER, Fairfield; Ervin FICKEL, Atlantic; Elvin FICKEL, Des Moines. Twelve grandchildren also survive. Two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
