Death of Phineas FAWCETT.

Death has claimed another old resident of Fairfield and patriarch in the church. Phineas FAWCETT, aged eight-two years, died very suddenly at his home in this city Sunday evening at a quarter past seven o'clock, after an illness of but little more than an hour. Twice before he had been surject to the same kind of an attack, first about a year ago and again last spring when he was sick for six weeks. Last Sunday he was alone in the house in his usual health with his daughter Laura, who was sick and unable to wait on herself. About six o'clock in the evening the old gentlemen went out to prepare a little supper for his daughter. He soon came back complaining of pain in his chest and side. His daughter exerted herself to call the neighbors and soon brought Mr, and Mrs. Jos. Bradley to the house, when a physician was sent for. It was soon seen that he was a very sick man, and although everything was done that could be he expired at 7:15.

Mr. FAWCETT was born in Belmont county, O., October 22, 1808, where he grew to manhood and was twice married. In 1854 he came to Fairfield, living in this city nearly two years. He then moved on a farm near Beckwith where he resided until the spring of 1870, when he moved back to Fairfield, where he since lived. His first wife was Miss Rachel MILLER, of Belmont county, to whom he was married in 1831. By her he had two children, the daughter, Mrs. John PATTERSON, formerly of Brookville, dying about four years ago; the son, Levi, lives near Beckwith, though for the past year he has been in Louisiana. Mr. FAWCETT's first wife died in 1834, and he was married about a year later, in 1835, to Jane ISRAEL (sic), also of Belmont county. By her he had seven children. Three of these died in childhood. Of those living are Mrs. Wm. CLOVER, of Beckwith; Rev. C. D. FAWCETT, of Kirkman, Shelby county, Iowa; and the Misses Hannah and Laura FAWCETT, who have made their home with their father here.

Mr. FAWCETT was a most exemplary man, and was highly esteemed by all who knew him. He had been a member of the Methodist church for over fifty years, having united with it when he was about thirty years old.

The funeral service was held at the residence Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock.
