Death of an Aged Woman.

At the home of her daughter, Mrs. Ed. MOSS, in this city Wednesday occurred the death of Mrs. Susan F. ELLIOTT. She had been in failing health for some time past, and for six months had been seriously ill. Susan CALDWELL was born in Allegheny county, Penn., October 3d, 1816. She grew to womanhood in that vicinity, and was married there to William ELLIOTT, who died in this city in February, 1892. Mr. and Mrs. ELLIOTT came to Iowa in 1847, and from that time to 1870 resided in and near Birmingham. During the latter year they came to this city, where both ended their lives. One child, Mrs. MOSS, survives them. During all her life in Fairfield Mrs. ELLIOTT was a member of the First Presbyterian church, was a regular attendant upon its services and an active participant in all its works. She was an excellent christian woman and discharged faithfully and well all the duties which devolved upon her in the home, the church and in the community. Her remains were interred Thursday afternoon in the Evergreen cemetery, where those of the husband repose. Rev. J. F. Magill had charge of the funeral services.

Death of Mrs. Susan ELLIOTT.

At the home of her son-in-law, Mr. Ed. MOSS, in this city, at three o'clock Wednesday afternoon, September 9, occurred the death of Mrs. Susan F. ELLIOTT, one of the best known and best loved elderly women in Fairfield. Quiet and gentle, fill of tenderness and earnestness, one of the saintly mothers in Israel, Mrs. ELLIOTT exerted a quiet but effective influence and will surely inherit the reward of all who are faithful, simple and sincere.

Her health had been gradually failing since the death of her husband, over four years ago, and since March last she has been confined to her room, and a good share of that time to her bed. For two months she had been down almost all the time, and for the last three weeks before her death had been too weak to carry on a conversation. Yet she was so independent by nature that she could scarcely endure being waited upon and to the very last exerted herself to the utmost to aid herself.

Mrs. ELLIOTT's maiden name was CALDWELL, and she was born in Allegheny county, Pennsylvania, October 3, 1816. She was therefore seventy-nine years, eleven months and six days old when she died. April 2, 1846, she was married to William ELLIOTT, and they went at once to Muskingum county, Ohio, which was the home of Mr. ELLIOTT. One year later they moved to Iowa, locating on a farm near Birmingham, where they continued to reside until February, 1871, when they removed to Fairfield and lived here continuously afterwards. In the early part of 1892 Mr. ELLIOTT died and since then deceased made her home with her daughter, Mrs. MOSS. There were five children born to Mrs. ELLIOTT, all of whom but Mrs. MOSS died in infancy.

Mrs. ELLIOTT was a life-long member of the Presbyterian church, uniting with it when but seventeen years old. She was very devoted to her church, but had a broad toleration for all who differed from her. She was active in all good works, and a number of years ago was particularly active in temperance work.

The funeral occurred Thursday afternoon, September 10th, at 2:30 P. M., Rev. Dr. Magill officiating.
