Accidentally Poisoned.

Mrs. Sarah ELLIOTT, wife of Charles ELLIOTT of Libertyville, died at her home in that place on Saturday last under very distressing circumstances. For many years Mrs. ELLIOTT had been an almost constant sufferer from a disease peculiar to her sex and which appeared to be incurable. At times during her long affliction morphine had been prescribed to relieve the intense pain which she suffered, and she had taken sufficient to understand its power and strength herself. A week or two ago she was again undergoing great suffering and her physician gave her a prescription containing, with other remedies, laudanum and chloral. A dose, as noted on the directions, was given her on the 16th inst., but she was dissatisfied with its action, and, not knowing the power of the drugs with which which she was dealing, she took a portion which she thought would suffice to give the desired relief. The medicine prostrated her completely, and she lay in a stupor for some time, but finally rallied and would have recovered in all probability had it not been that the stimulants necessary aggravated the disease from which she was suffering and finally produced death. Mrs. ELLIOTT was a daughter of Rev. T. T. HENDERSON of this city, and was a very estimable woman. Although a native of Virginia, both she and her husband had spent most of their lives in this county and have a large circle of friends who will mourn the untimely taking away of the wife and mother. Deceased was about 43 years of age, and leaves one child, a daughter nearly grown. The funeral occurred Monday, Rev. M. Bamford of this city conducting the services.

LIBERTYVILLE.

... Saturday, at 12 o'clock, at her late home in Libertyville, occurred the sad and untimely death of Mrs. Sallie ELLIOT (sic), wife of Charles ELLIOT, from an excessive dose of anodyne. The deceased was born in Virginia in 1842 and was married in 1869. She leaves a husband and a daughter about fifteen years of age, Miss Josie. For a great many years she had been an invalid and a great sufferer from neuralgic pains. The fatal dose was no doubt taken during a paroxysm of pain which this well known disease is known to cause, for no one will believe that Mrs. ELLIOT deliberately took the dose to end her life. The funeral services were performed at her late residence, Monday, Rev. McMackin, a Methodist minister of Fairfield, officiating. Mrs. ELLIOT was of that faith, and died in the hope of a happy reunion in a world where life is perfect and joy complete.
