SHELBY JEAN EMRY
Brighton

Shelby Jean EMRY, 77, of Brighton, died late Sunday, Oct. 24, 2021, at Mercy Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA). She was born Nov. 17, 1943, in Washington, to Allen Grant and Norma Fern CHURCHILL DUNSMORE. Shelby grew up in Washington and graduated from Washington High School in 1961. She married Fredrick Joseph EMRY on Feb. 10, 1962, in Washington. She worked at American Chain and Cable in Fairfield, Advanced Ross in Washington and at Fansteel-Washington Manufacturing for 22 years. She retired in 1998. Shelby enjoyed donating her time and quilting.

Shelby is survived by her children, Anthony of Otley, Charles (Connie) of Brighton, Robert (Tamara) of Brighton and Susan GRIGGS (Ed) of Washington; eight grandchildren, Josh EMRY (Andrea) of Iowa City, Stephanie MANNING (Justin) of Janesville, Iowa, Sarah ZICKEFOOSE (Seth) of Kalona, Iowa, Austin EMRY (Cassandra) of Kellogg, Iowa, Cheyenne GRIGGS of Aurora, Colo., Nolan GRIGGS of Lafayette, Colo., and Joseph EMRY of Brighton; six great-grandchildren; two half-brothers, Dinny DUNSMORE of Gastonia, N.C., and Ricky DUNSMORE of Belleville, Ill.; two stepbrothers, Gary NIGHT of Tennessee and Terry NIGHT of Washington; and one stepsister, Virginia HANSHAW-GLEASON of Fairfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred; parents, Allen DUNSMORE, Norma and Clyde KNIGHT; one granddaughter, Anna; one brother, Charles; stepsister, Sondra; and stepbrother, Larry.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m, Saturday, Oct. 30, at Brighton Community Church with the Rev. Rick Zickefoose officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery in East Pleasant Plain. Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Gould Funeral Home in Brighton. Memorials for the Brighton Volunteer First Responders or the Brighton Volunteer Fire Department may be left at the funeral home or mailed to the family at 509 E. Main St., Brighton, IA 52540. Gould Funeral Home of Brighton is in charge of arrangements.
