GILBERT W. BURCH

Gilbert W. Burch, 67, owner of Burch Funeral Home in Birmingham and former owner of Burch Furniture Store, died at 1:15 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, 1983 at Van Buren County Memorial Hospital, Keosauqua. He had suffered an apparent heart attack earlier in the day.

He was born March 3, 1916 to Ray and Cora JOHNSTON BURCH at Burlington, where me (sic - he) married Mildred RODGERS June 30, 1937.

He served with the SeaBees during World War II, was a member of the United Methodist Church, National and Iowa Funeral Directors association, American Legion, Masonic lodge, OES, Disabled American Veterans and Lions. He also served on the town council and school board and was a former town clerk.

Surviving: his wife; two sons, Rodger, Des Moines, and Robert, Norwalk; four grandchildren; and a sister, Imogene VAUGHN, El Paso, Texas.

Funeral services were held Saturday, April 16, 2 p.m. at the Birmingham United Methodist Church with Rev. David Kennedy officiating. Burial was in Maple Hill Cemetery. Masonic rites were held on Friday, April 15. Raymond Funeral Home, Fairfield, was in charge arrangements.
