DOUGHERTY dies

Merle DOUGHERTY, 78, 800 S. Ninth St., died at 10 a.m. today at the Jefferson County Hospital. Arrangements are pending at the Behner Funeral Home.

M. DOUGHERTY dies at 78

Services were held at 1:30 p.m. today for Merle M. DOUGHERTY, 78, who died at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Jefferson County Hospital.

The services were held at the Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Ed Parker officiating. Burial took place in Evergreen Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association. Visitation was Sunday evening at the funeral home.

DOUGHERTY had lived most of his life in the Libertyville and Fairfield communities. He had farmed, had worked in a creamery and restaurant, and was employed at J&B Plastics when he retired.

He was born Oct. 17, 1906, at Rome, the son of James and Susie WILLEY DOUGHERTY. He married Amy Charline COOKSEY Jan. 27, 1927, in Fairfield. She survives.

In addition to his widow, DOUGHERTY is survived by three daughters: Rose HANSEN, Fairfield; Irene GIRE, St. Charles, Mo.; Sue Ann WILSON, Le Sueur, Minn.; two sons, Jim, Libertyville; and Marty, Fairfield.

Also surviving are 14 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mary MANNING, Mesa, Ariz., Alberta FERREL, also of Mesa; and Roberta MILLER, Fairfield.
