OBITUARY.

DOUGHERTY.--In Fairfield, Iowa, on Friday evening, March 26th. 1875, Mrs. Amanda M. DOUGHERTY, wife of Mr. John E. DOUGHERTY, aged 40 years, 8 months and 5 days.

Mrs. Amanda M. DOUGHERTY, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W. M. DAVIS, wasn born in Cambridge, Ohio, July 21, 1834, and in childhood was converted and united with the M. E. Church. In early womanhood she engaged in teaching. Removed in 1853, with her parents, to Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, and Jan. 1st, 1856, was united in marriage with John E. DOUGHERTY. Died, after a brief but severe illness, in Fairfield, Iowa, March 26, 1875, leaving a husband and four children.

Mrs. DOUGHERTY possesed a nervous, sanguine temperament; medium in stature, and fragile; hopeful and cheerful; full of enthusiasm for every good work, and ambitions beyond her power of physical endurance. During the last few months of her life she was unusually endowed with power from on high, and through this divine inworking her spiritual nature grew more expansive, and rose in quality and tone in a marked degree. From the midst of her family and near friends she passed away at the going down of the sun on a bright, spring-like day.

A few hours before her departure she asked her husband to sing and pray with her. "What shall I sing?" said he, She replied: "That song which begins, 'O, sing to me of heaven when I am called to die.' I am going on a long, long journey." "Is any one going with you?" "Yes, Jesus is going with me."

In her death the community loses a true, devoted woman, the church a devoted worker, her husband and children a loving wife and mother.
