John Arthur COPELAND Sr., 87, of Fairfield, passed away Monday, Aug. 2, 2021, at his home. Visitation for family and friends will be from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, at Behner Funeral Home. Funeral service will follow starting at 11 a.m. with Pastor Danny Cary officating. Burial with Military Hhnors (sic) will follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Compassus and mailed to Linda COPELAND, 1101 E. Jefferson Ave., Fairfield, IA 52556.

John was born July 3, 1934, in Fairfield, to Clifford John and Ruth Neuberry (DOWNEY) COPELAND. He married Mary Helen CARY on June 13, 1957, at the Foursquare Church. They were married 47 years before she passed away on Dec. 1, 2004.

John served in the Air Force at the end of the Korean War (sic - Korean Conflict) and was stationed for four years in Germany. He worked at Rockwell International for 25 years. John enjoyed doing woodworking, listening to Country and Gospel music, trains and collected old car and tractor banks. John was a pilot and enjoyed putting model planes together.

John will be missed by his children, John (Vickie) COPELAND of Fort Myers, Fla., Julia (Gayle) WILLIAMS of McPherson, Kan., David (Becky) COPELAND of Carroll, Ohio, Denise FILSON of Weston, Fla., and Linda MUNZER of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; 12 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; his siblings, Carrol COPELAND, Darrell COPELAND, Bernice THOMPSON, Carolyn POOL and Rita BARBER, all of Fairfield, Larry COPELAND of Libertyville, Donna VICE of Agency, IAowa (sic) and Rosalie RODGERS of Ottumwa; and many nieces and nephews.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Ruth; wife, Mary; and his brother, Wayne.
