DEATH CLAIMS MRS. DAVIDSON

One of Jefferson county's oldest residents passed away Sunday evening after an illness of six weeks. She is Mrs. Mary Ann DAVIDSON, 96, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Nellie QUILLEN, 501 W. Briggs street.

Mrs. DAVIDSON, despite her advanced age, had remained in good health up until six weeks ago even after she had fractured her hip on May 30, 1949. She had been seriously ill the past month and a half.

Last rites will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Christian church with Rev. S. P. Williamson in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Mary Ann DAVIDSON was born April 10, 1854, at Hopedale, Ohio, the daughter of the late John and Sarah SPENCER BELL. She was united in marriage on December 30, 1874, to James H. DAVIDSON who passed away February 5 (sic - 6th), 1891.

The couple came to this community from Ohio in 1888, and before moving to Fairfield in 1905, lived on a farm six miles northwest of the city. Mrs. DAVIDSON had been a member of the Christian church for 80 years.

Mrs. DAVIDSON is survived by the following children: John W., Eldon; Floyd, Fairfield; Mrs. Lela WATERHOUSE, Fairfield; Mrs. Josie BROWN, Ottumwa; and Mrs. Nellie QUILLEN, Fairfield. Two daughters and one son preceded her in death.

The body is at the Hoskins funeral home and will be taken to the church at 10:30 a. m. Wednesday.
