William CUPP, Former Council Member, Dies

William V. CUPP, one-time member of the city council, passed away about 6 a.m. this morning at his home, 307 E. Briggs street.

He suffered a stroke last March and had been in failing health since, but his death this morning was sudden and unexpected.

Last rites will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at the Raymond Funeral home with Dr. C.R. Douglass officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery. The body will arrive at the Raymond Funeral home Thursday from the Pedrick funeral home at Douds.

CUPP had been a resident of Fairfield for the past 40 years, most of the time engaged in the painting and decorating business. He was a member of several fraternal organizations and was active in music circles. He served as a member of the city council for a number of years.

William V. CUPP, 75, was born June 8, 1885, near Stockport, Ia., the son of Valentine and Mary Catherine CUPP. He was reared and educated in the Stockport community and was married April 19, 1916, to Hazel SCOTT at Birmingham.

The family moved to Fairfield 40 years ago and he had made his home here since. He was a member of the IOOF and Encampment of Fairfield, the KP lodge and the Presbyterian church.

Besides his wife, CUPP is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Walter (Maxine) LYONS, Atlantic, Ia.; two granddaughters; four sisters, Mrs. Lola REHKOPF, Chino, Calif.; Mrs. Nettie HICKEY, Bloomfield; Ethel and Katie CUPP, both of Fairfield; and one brother, George CUPP, also of Fairfield.

Jefferson County, ss.

Notice Is Hereby Given, that the undersigned has been duly appointed and qualified as Executrix of the estate of William CUPP, deceased, late of Jefferson County. All persons indebted to said estate are requested to make immediate payment and those having claims against the same will present them within legal time, duly authenticated, to the undersigned, for allowance and file in the office of the Clerk of the District Court.
