Ernestine Micheal' TOPPING was born on October 10, 1956, in Fairfield, IA, to Ernest and Rosaline SCHILLERSTROM HISER. She attended school in Fairfield, where she graduated with the class of 1975. During her time in school, she met Carl TOPPING. This was the first chapter in a story that lasted over 45 years. Ernestine and Carl began their life together as husband and wife on September 28, 1975, at the Presbyterian Church in Salina, IA. Together they became the loving parents of three children: Ben, Kim, and Bethany. They settled in rural Birmingham, IA on the farm where they worked side by side. Ernestine helped with all aspects of the farm operation. Her specialty was caring for the livestock which included hogs, cattle, sheep, goats and everything in between. She was Carl's right hand woman. There wasn't anything they couldn't accomplish together. Ernestine also helped support the family by working as the Garden Center Manager at Wal-Mart in Fairfield where she was a dedicated employee for over 25 years. When she wasn't helping on the farm or working at Wal-Mart, she could be found baking, sewing or crafting. She was a gifted seamstress who made her own wedding dress. She also enjoyed gardening and canning the vegetables that she raised. She was a woman of faith and was a member of the Fairfield Friends Church. Ernestine was a loving wife and dedicated mother and grandmother. Her presence will be missed by her family and the many friends she made along the way.
Ernestine was preceded in deth by her parents, Earnest and Rosaline HISER, and her father-in-law, Dean TOPPING.
Left to share her story is her loving husband, Carl TOPPING of Birmingham, IA; three children, Ben (Amy) TOPPING of Bonaparte, IA, Kim (Jim) SINGER of Birmingham, IA, and Bethany (James) THOMAS of Birmingham, IA; eight grandchildren, Calley and Dawson TOPPING, Jacqualine, Rosaline, Townsend, and Joseph SINGER, and Jake and Emily THOMAS; three siblings, Sharon JOHNSON of Alabama, Jennie (Russ) BORGOMAINERIO of Salina, IA, and Becky LUTSIC of New York; her mother-in-law, Irene TOPPING of Keosauqua; as well as many extended family and friends.
