PAY TRIBUTE TO MRS. COPELAND
Invalid Mother Hears Funeral Services for Daughter By Phone

Many relatives and friends paid tribute to the memory of Mrs. John H. COPELAND, who died early Wednesday morning, at the funeral services Saturday. Rev. S. P. Williamson officiated at the last rites at the Hoskins Funeral home at 2 o'clock.

Mrs. T. M. RIDER, 86 years old, who resides six miles northwest of Fairfield, heard the funeral services of her daughter over the telephone wires. With a receiver in her hand, Mrs. RIDER listened for forty minutes to the services being conducted at the Hoskins Funeral home, where a public address system had been installed. Mrs. RIDER, an old resident of Fairfield, having come here 62 years ago, was too feeble from age to leave the house for the services so the arrangements were made possible by the local telephone company.

The Rodgers quartet, composed of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Rodgers and Mr. and Mrs. Bardette Rodgers, sand "Beautiful Isle of Somwhere," "Going Down the Valley" and "Saved By Grace." They were accompanied on the piano by Mrs. John Peterson.

There were many beautiful floral pieces banked around the casket. The pallbearers were Robert and Clarence LAUGHRIDGE (sic), Harold and Roy BRYAN, and Leroy and Clifford COPELAND. Interment was in Evergreen cemetery.

Among the out-of-town relatives and friends who attended the services were: Mr. and Mrs. Harold BRYAN, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Smith, of Chicago, Ill.; Mr. and Mrs. Roy BRYAN and Mr. Anna E. BRYAN, of Davenport; Mr. and Mrs. Henry COPELAND and Larry COPELAND, of Des Moines; Warren RIDER, of Hemingford, Neb.; Robert LAUGHRIDGE (sic), of Keokuk and Clarence LAUGHRIDGE (sic), of Conroy, Iowa.
