COPELAND Rites Friday Morning

Mrs. May COPELAND, Fairfield resident for the past 38 years, passed away Tuesday about 9:25 p.m. at the Nelson Nursing home west of Fairfield where she had been a patient since May. Prior to that she was a patient at the Jefferson county hospital for some time. She had been in failing health the past three years.

Last rites will be Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Hoskins funeral home with Dr. J. Henry Teele in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

May COPELAND, 78, was born April 5, 1880, in Lee county, Iowa, the daughter of the late David Logan and Malvena SAXE HOUSER. She was reared and educated in Iowa City, attended schools there as well as the University of Iowa for three years. She was graduated from Boston University in 1902.

She was united in marriage Sept. 12, 1901, at Iowa City to the Rev. Edwin Grant COPELAND who passed away Dec. 10 (sic - 9th), 1920.

A member of the Methodist church, Mrs. COPELAND served as librarian at the Fairfield public library from 1920 until 1937.

She is survived by one daughter, Beulah COPELAND, Fairfield, and serval (sic - several) nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister and a brother.
