FORMER DRUG STORE OWNER DIED SUDDENLY
Jay COPELAND passed away at local hospital Saturday evening

Jay COPELAND, 70, well known retired druggist of Fairfield, passed away at the Jefferson county hospital Saturday evening at 9:40 p.m. He became seriously ill about 4:30 o'clock Saturday afternoon at which time he was taken to the hospital. His death was caused by a stroke.

Mr. COPELAND was well known here in this city, having lived in Fairfield since 1888. He owned and operated the Copeland Drug store which was located on the southwest corner of the square a number of years ago. He later was employed at the Higley Drug store on the east side of the square for many years. Mr. COPELAND was a registered pharmacist and spent over 40 years in that occupation.

He was born in Harrison county, O., the son of the late John and Harriett COPELAND. His wife, Elizabeth, preceded him in death in 1935.

Surviving are his son, Carl R. COPELAND, Portland, Oregon; two sisters, Lucy BARKHURST, Hopedale, O.; and Elosia CARSON, Cadiz, O., and two brothers, T. A. F. COPELAND, Cadiz, O., and J. B. COPELAND, Fairfield. Two grandchildren, Marilee and Remine COPELAND, also survive.

The body was taken to the Weston Behner funeral home where funeral arrangements are pending awaiting the arrival of Carl COPELAND from Portland, Ore.

Funeral Services For Jay COPELAND To Be Thursday Afternoon

Funeral services for Jay COPELAND, former well known druggist in Fairfield, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Weston Behner funeral home in charge of Rev. S. P. Williamson. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Mr. COPELAND's son, Carl, is expected to arrive from Portland Ore., Wednesday evening. Mr. COPELAND passed away at the Jefferson county hospital Saturday evening following a stroke.
