FRY COPELAND, WELL KNOWN IN CITY, DIES
Prominent Fairfield police officer for twenty-eight years

Fry COPELAND, 78, resident of Fairfield for over 50 years, passed away Sunday morning about 6:40 a.m. at his home 610 West Stone street in Fairfield. He had been in ill health for the past several months.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Weston Behner funeral home in charge of Rev. S. P. Williamson. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Mr. COPELAND was born in Harrison county, Ohio, on September 25, 1864. He was the son of the late Samuel and Mary COPELAND. He was united in marriage on August 4, 1909 to Love M. GUDGELL who preceded him in death on November 17, 1920.

He was at one time a member of the city police force, having served that position for 28 years. He was a member of the I. O. O. F. lodge No. 4.

Mr. COPELAND is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Lila MILLER, Fairfield, two sisters, Mrs. Annie BRYAN, Fairfield, and Mrs. May L. CLAYWELL, Colville, Washington. Two brothrs, John H. and Samuel A. COPELAND, both of Fairfield, and one granddaughter, Shirley Rae MILLER, also survive.

His wife and one adopted daughter preceded him in death.

... --Harold BRYAN of Chicago attended the funeral services for his uncle, Fry COPELAND, held at the Weston Behner home on Tuesday at two o'clock. Mr. BRYAN is a son of Mrs. Annie BRYAN sister of Mr. COPELAND.

Note: Buried in Lot Old.P.311. Leslie, or 'Fry' as he was commonly called, was first married on March 12, 1895, to Elinor S. SMITH who died in 1900; she is also buried in Evergreen Cemetery, in Lot Old.P.060. Fry is buried with second wife Love.
