COOK INJURED IN CRASH ON SATURDAY
Collision in West End totally wrecks one car

Paul COOK, 23, of 409 South Sixth street, suffered minor injuries in an automobile crash on Highway 34 in West End, late Saturday night. The accident occurred about 11:30 p.m.

COOK who was hurrying to the home of his parents in West End to secure aid for his wife, failed to signal as he made the turn off highway 34 to the south. Coming directly behind him was an automobile driven by Bueford Gose, 324 East Fourth street, Ottumwa

The Gose car crashed into COOK's automobile, wrecking it completely. The Gose vehicle was badly damaged about the front. Neither Mr. Gose or his two passengers Mrs. Gose and Ray Colton of Libertyville, were hurt in the accident.

COOK was taken to the Jefferson county hospital at once, for first aid. His wife was admitted to the hospital only a few minutes after he arrived, and within a half-hour gave birth to a son. The child lived only a few hours after birth.

Patrolman Hans Aldershof, who investigated the accident, filed charges late this afternoon aganst both drivers. COOK was charged with failing to give the proper signals before he made the turn, and Gose was charged with failure to have his vehicle under control for the assured clear distance ahead.

The stretch of highway where the accident occurred is more than unusally hazardous, Patrolman Aldershof stated, and all motorists should exercise more than ordinary caution in driving through that district. Several accidents have occurred there during the past several months.
