Saturday Rites Scheduled For Harry W. COOK

Harry W. COOK, retired Fairfield businessman and a long-time resident of Fairfield, died about 12:25 a.m. this morning at the Jefferson county hospital. He had been in failing health for some time and seriously ill the past three weeks.

COOK was associated with the dray and transfer business in Fairfield over a long period of years. He began his career with the Stallman Transfer company in 1921, and in 1928 he started his own firm known as Cook's Transfer company.

in 1945 he was joined by a partner, Loren Shepherd. COOK sold his interest to Shepherd upon his retirement in 1955. The family home is at 104 E. Hempstead. He was a member of Elks and K of P lodges.

Last rites will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Weston Behner funeral home with the Rev. J. Roland Crandall and the Rev. Elton Coleman officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.

Harry W. COOK, 70, was born Aug. 22, 1890, at Salem, Iowa, the son of Grant and Lottie BROWN COOK. He attended school in Salem and Rome, and the Howe Academy at Mt. Pleasant.

He was united in marriage to Eliza Rachel BASHAM on Sept. 6, 1911, who survives. COOK had been a resident of Fairfield for 55 years.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two half-sisters, Mrs. Bessie FOOTE, Long Beach, Calif., and Mrs. Josephine SMITH, Phoenix, Ariz. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter.

Mrs. Bower will remain with her sister, Mrs. COOK, for a longer visit.

NOTICE OF PROBATE OF WILL IN DISTRICT COURT

Jefferson County, ss.

To All Whom It May Concern:

You Are Hereby Notified, That an instrument of writing purporting to be the last Will and Testament of Harry W. COOK, deceased, dated February 4, 1961, having been this day filed, opened and read, Wednesday the 6th day of September 1961 is fixed for hearing proof of same at the Court House in Fairfield, Iowa, before the District court of said County, or the Clerk of said Court; and at 9:30 o'clock a.m. of the day above mentioned all persons interested are hereby notified and required to appear, and show cause if any they have, why said instrument should not be probated and allowed as and for the last Will and testament of said deceased.
