Funeral Services Tomorrow at 2 o'clock from Methodist ChurchJames Sylvester COFFMAN, 103 West Briggs street, who was taken seriously ill Friday, passed away last night at 10:30 o'clock at the Jefferson county hospital. He was born in Diller Neb. December 31, 1883, and died at the age of 48 years and 21 days (sic - 47y 21d). For the past several years he has been employed with the Dexter company.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the First Methodist church in charge of Dr. U. S. Smith. Burial wil take place in Evergreen cemetery.
Mr. COFFMAN is survived by his wife, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. B. COFFMAN of 309 West Adams street, and three daughters, Rose, Bertha and Sara all of this city. He also leaves the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. J. G. BURNETT of Ensley, Ala.; E. E. COFFMAN and B. E. COFFMAN of Des Moines and Mrs. L. D. GRAHAM, Mrs,. C. W. STRONG, Miss Esther COFFMAN and J. H. COFFMAN, all of Fairfield.

Page THREE, Column 4PAY TRIBUTE TO J. S. COFFMAN
Services Were Held Saturday Afternon from Methodist ChurchMany relatives and friends paid tribute to the memory of James S. COFFMAN, who died Wednesday evening after a short illness, at the funeral services Friday afternoon. Dr. U. S. Smith officiated at the last rites at the First Methodist church at 2 oclock.
The boys quartet of the Fairfield high school furnished the music. The quartet is composed of Harold Ewing, Loren Putnam, Willard Pedrick and William Baker. They were accompanied on the pipe organ by Miss Winifred Ewing. The floral offerings were beautiful and profuse. The casket attendants were from the Eagle lodge (sic - Aerie/Club) of which Mr. COFFMAN was a member. They were: Albert Sharpe, Charles Sullivan, Luther Quillen, Ed Bell, Will Brown and Thomas E. Spencer. Interment took place in Evergreen cemetery.
James Sylvester COFFMAN, the eldest son of Rosa Belle and Henry Boardman COFFMAN, was born near Diller, Nebraska, December 31, 1883 and passed away on the night of January 21, 1931, at ten thirty oclock. He had been ill but a few days. At the time of his passing he was forty-seven years and twenty eight days of age.
James was one of eight brothers and sisters all of whom survive him and all but two of whom were with him during his illness.
At an early age he with his mother became a member of the Dunkard church of Diller, Nebraska. A few years later when the family moved to Iowa he united with the First Methodist church of Richland, Iowa, from which his membership has not been transferred.
On January 1, 1908, he was united in marriage to Margaret Anna KEEEFE (sic - KEEFE) of County Waterford, Ireland, who preceeded (sic) him in death on Mal (sic - May) 21, 1913. To this union were born three daughters, Rose, Bertha Mae and Sara Josephine, all of whom survive him.
On September 7, 1921 he was united in marriage to Gertrude SINGLETON who also survives him together with his mother and father and the following brothers and sisters: Mrs. J. G. BURNETT, Ensley, Alabama; E. E. COFFMAN and B. E. COFFMAN, Des Moines; Mrs. L. D. GRAHAM, Mrs. C. W. STRONG, J. H. COFFMAN, and Esther COFFMAN of Fairfield.
Since moving to Fairfield some twenty years ago he has made his home here continuously. For a number of years he had been employed at the Dexter Manufacturing company. He was affiliated with the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Brotherhood of American Yeoman. Mr. COFFMAN was well and favorably known by a large circle of friends.

Second wife Gertrude died in 1944 and is buried with her SINGLETON husband in Richland, IA. Per his death certificate, he underwent an operation for an intestinal blockage, subsequently developed an abdominal infection, and then his kidneys shut down, all within five days.
