Death Comes To Joe H. COFFMAN, Local Merchant

Joey H. COFFMAN, long-time Fairfield businessmanu (sic) and a veteran of World War I, passed away about 9:45 a.m. this morning at his home, 120½ W. Broadway.

He had been in failing health for the past four months and seriously ill since June 19 when he entered the Veterans hospital at Iowa City for treatment. He was returned to his home here just recently.

The body is at the Hoskins funeral home where last rites are pending.

COFFMAN had been a businessman in Fairfield for a number of years, operating an appliance and sporting goods store. He moved his business to its present location on the west side of the square a few years ago.

He was a member of the Elks, the K of P Lodge and the American Legion. He was a member of the Chamber of Commerce and represented the Fairfield businessmen on the board of directors of the Southeast Iowa Cloud Seeding Corporation. The organization was formed in 1956 during the lengthy drouth which plagued this area. COFFMAN was known throughout the county as an outdoor sportsman and fisherman.

He was united in marriage on January 17, 1920, to Jennie H. PARKS. The wedding took place at Bloomfield.

Besides his wife, he is survived by one brother, two sisters and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral Tuesday For Joe COFFMAN

Last rites will be Tuesday for Joe H. COFFMAN, well known Fairfield businessman who passed away Saturday morning.

The services will be at 2 p.m. at the Hoskins funeral home with Dr. C. R. Douglass in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cemetery.
