George D. CLARKE Is Dead.

George Danforth CLARKE, a business man of this city for more than a quarter of a century, died at his home on West Broadway Sunday morning. He had been in ill health for several years and a confirmed invalid since early in 1902. Mr. CLARKE was a son of the late Dr. Charles S. CLARKE. He was born in Mt. Pleasant January 18th, 1853, and accompanied the family when the father came to Fairfield in 1857 and engaged in the drug business and the practice of medicine. He received his earlier education in the city schools and was later a student in the State university at Iowa City. On his return here he engaged in business with Dr. CLARKE and afterwards succeeded him. He closed his business life here last year. Mr. CLARKE was married to Henrietta MONTGOMERY in this city May 22d, 1879. The wife and three children, Helen M., Charles W. and Ruth, survive him. George D. CLARKE was a man of generous heart and kindly impulses. He was a genial companion and a friend who could be relied upon. In the community in which nearly all his life was spent and among his business associates he had many warm friends who sympathize with him in his affliction and will mourn his death. Funeral services were held at the home on West Broadway yesterday afternoon at 3 o'clock.
