Sylvester CLAPP died this morning at 7:30 o'clock at the home of his daughter, Mrs. J. Fred CLARKE on South Main street after an illness of several weeks. His death was due to apoplexy.
Mr. CLAPP was born in Huntsburg Ohio, February 29, 1824, where he grew to young manhood and was married. About twenty-five years ago Mr. and Mrs. CLAPP moved to Illinois where they resided for fifteen years and then moved to Burlington, Iowa ,where (sic) they lied until about three years ago when they came to Fairfield to make their home.
Three daughters were born to the couple, and they with the aged wife and mother survive. They are Mrs. L. D. CLARK of Huntsburg, O., Mrs. J. B. RANSOM of Dannemora, New York, and Mrs. J. Fred CLARKE of this city. Although Mr. CLAPP had called Fairfield his home for only three years, he and his wife often visited here for a length of time and many Fairfield and Jefferson county people had come to regard Mr. CLAPP as a valued friend. Until recently he was able to go about and visit with his friends and neighbors and none more thoroughly enjoyed meeting and knowing people than did he.
There are many friends in Fairfield today who will receive the news of his death with deepest regret. Mrs. CLARK and Mrs. RA,NSOM, (sic) daughters of Mr. and Mrs. CLAPP, will arrive tomorrow and until they are here no arrangements will be made for the funeral.
