P. P. CHAPIUS (sic) CALLED TODAY IN IOWA CITY
Jefferson County Farmer Dies in State University Hospital

Peter P. CHAPIUS well known Jefferson county farmer living in Cedar Township died this morning at 3:00 o'clock in the University of Iowa hospital in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA) after a lingering illness. He was taken to the hospital last Thursday, and had been in poor health for the past three years.

Mr. CHAPIUS who had been a farmer all his life was 76-years old and is survived by his wife Mary, and the following children:

Clay and Walter of Fairfield; Ray and Lou of Stockport; Lee of Lansing, Mich.; a daughter Flora of Davenport and Mrs. Iola JOHNSON also a daughter of North Dakota.

The body was taken to the Murray Funeral home in this city.

OBITUARY

PETER P. CHAPIUS (sic)

Peter P., son of Justine and Theodore CHAPIUS; was born in Cedar township in Jefferson county, Iowa, February 26, 1858, and departed from this life at the Iowa City hospital, July 23, 1934 at the age of 76 years, 4 months and 17 days. His entire life had been spent as a sucessful (sic) farmer in and around Jefferson county.

He was united in marriage to Mary K. (sic - Mary J.) DROZ, September 22, 1885.

To this union were born seven children, two girls and five boys all of whom remain.

He will be forever remembered in this community as a kind and loving husband and father, and as a helpful and considerate neighbor and friend.

Besides his wife, he leaves to mourn his parting seven children Clay and Walter of Fairfield, Lou and Ray of Stockport, Lee of Lansing, Mich., Mrs. Flora BRYAN of Davenport and Mrs. Iola JOHNSTON of Fullerton, N. D. one sister Mrs. Clemmie COX of White Water, Colo., one brother; Lou of Fairfield, and nine grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. His parents and one sister preceded him in death.

The pallbearers were Andy Daub, Irle Keller, W. W. Smith, Claude Edwards, Clay Wright, and William Murdock.
