ROBERT MORRIS CAVINESS
Robert Morris CAVINESS was born about four miles east of Fairfield, March 20, 1852. In his early boyhood he was very frail, but later he grew to be a strong robust young man. At the age of fifteen he heard the Seventh Day Adventist religion preached and although bitterly opposed by his father, he, with his mother and two brothers accepted its truths and were baptized, uniting with the Seven Day Adventist church here in Fairfield. To this faith he has held firmly through the years and was a constant reader of the scriptures, having read the Bible through systematically over one hundred and fifty times.
When about nineteen years of age he took up the teaching profession which he made a life work, having taught in the public schools of Iowa for fifty years.
August 5, 1883 he was united in marriage with Ella BARRINGER of Brighton. Together they trod life's pathway for forty years, until his faithful companion was laid to rest Marsh (sic) 22, 1923.
Mr. CAVINESS has been in poor health for the past five years, but was never entirely confined to his bed. The last six months, his condition has steadily grown worse. Without a moment's warning he deaprted this life the morning of August 31.
He leaves to mourn his passing, one daughter, Mrs. H. A. KESINGER (sic) with whom he made his home the past two years and three brothers, William of Colorado, Richard of Michigan and Anson of Nebraska.
