DEATH TAKES OMAR CATHEY

A Fairfield man who served in the armed forces overseas during World War I passed away at the veterans hospital in Des Moines at 4:30 p.m. yesterday (note: in Polk Co., IA).

He is Omar K. CATHEY, 56, who had been seriously ill for the past three months.

Last rites, with military services, will be held Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. at the Weston Behner funeral home with Rev. S. P. Williamson in charge. Burial will be in Evergreen cememtery. The Fairfield Legion and V.F.W. posts will have charge of the military services.

Mr. CATHEY had been a resident of Fairfield for the past 30 years, and for the past 10 years had been employed as salesman at the Zillman Motor company. the family home is located at 403 North B street.

Omar K. CATHEY was born March 26, 1893, at Martinsburg, Iowa, the son of William K. and Per Melia (sic - Permelia) WEEKS CATHEY. He was united in marriage at Fairfield on December 21, 1921, to Myrtle RUBY who survives.

Mr. CATHEY was a member of the Packwood Methodist church, the Fairfield American Legion Post and the local Post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Besides his wife he is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Fred ALLMAN, Eldon; Mrs. Nels NELSON, Fairfield; and Mrs. Donald HICKENBOTTOM, Stockport; three sons, Frank, Omar, Jr., and Robert CATHEY, all at home; and three grandchildren.

Mr. CATHEY is also survived by one brother, Tom, Mt. Pleasant; and three sisters, Mrs. Lloyd CAVINESS, East Moline; Mrs. Lloyd MORROW, Fairfield; and Mrs. E. R. DONOVAN, Fairfield.

Note: Buried in Lot SDof17-024. Wife Myrtle subsequently remarried to Maurice W. DOYLE, died in 1993, and is buried with Omar. Maurice is buried in Henry Co., IA, with is first wife.
