OBITUARY

PERMELIA ISABELLE CATHY (sic)

Permelia Isabelle, daughter of Thomas and Hester WEEKS was born on a plantation near Murfaesbora (sic - Murfreesboro), Tenn., January 3rd 1871. Here she spent her girlhood. She was married to William K. CATHEY then of Chattanooga, Tenn., September 16, 1888. Immediately following their marriage they went with three other families, by covered wagon, to the Indian Territory, Choctotaw (sic - Choctaw) Nation, which is now part of the state of Oklahoma. One son, Arthur Blaine, was born September 1, 1889, but passed away in infancy. Owing to the malaria plauge (sic) in 1890. Mr. and Mrs. CATHEY returned to Murfreesboro for a short period of time. Later in 1890 they moved to Martinsburg, Iowa where five children were born. Here they lived until 1897 when the family took residence in Packwood. While there Mrs. CATHEY was made a member of the Methodist church and was active in church affairs. The family came to Fairfield in 1918, where they have since made their home. Mrs. CATHEY was a loving wife and mother, always ready to help others in time of sickness or trouble. She was a great lover of home and devoted all of her time and effort in making it happy and comfortable, never being to busy (sic) to greet a friend or neighbor as they passed her door. Her health began to fail about eight months ago. She bore her suffering silently, none realizing the seriousness of her condition. She gradually grew weaker, but kept about the house until Wednesday night, July 29th, when she was compelled to take to her bed. She was removed to the Jefferson County Hospital July 31st.

Being in such a weakened condition she failed to respond to medical aid and her master called her home at 3:50 a.m. Aug. 1. She leaves to mourn her passing her devoted husband, three daughters, Mrs. Lloyd CAVINESS, Mrs. Lloyd MORROW and Mrs. Netta McCLURE, all of Fairfield, two sons, Omar K. of Fairfield and Thomas H. of igourney (sic), Iowa, ten grandchildren, four having preceded her in death, three brothers, James and Franklin of Indianola, Okla., George of Murfreesboro, Tenn., and one sister, Mrs. Nancy CATHEY of Canadian, Okla., besides hosts of friends and loving neighbors.
