Augustus E. CARSON died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Robt. B. LOUDEN, in this city Sunday evening. He has been in ill health for several years, but his death was the result of a paralytic stroke which he suffered about two weeks ago. The remains were interred here Monday morning, Rev. J. A. Boatman conducting the funeral services. Mr. CARSON was born at Sprinfield, Cumberland county, Va., February 4th, 1810, where the earlier years of his life were spent. He was educated for the ministry at Cannonsburg, Penn., but never entered into its active work. He was for a number of years a teacher in an academy in Greene county, Penn., and later engaged in commercial pursuits. Mr. CARSON was married to Miss Eliza BIDDLE at Carmichael's, Penn., in 1853, and the wife and five children survive the husband and father. The family removed to Appanoose county, this state, in 1856, and made its home on a farm there until July last. Then failing health compelled a change, and Mr. and Mrs. CARSON came to this city. Mr. CARSON was a man of much mental strength and vigor in his earlier years, and those who have known him during his long residence in Iowa speak of him in the most kindly manner as husband, father and citizen.

He was interested in the educational progress, social, reform, political evolution, natural growth, and the religious development of the people. His long life, his well educated and trained intellect, and his high moral and religious character, made him the companion and friend of many of the great men of our country. And in his old age, the memory of those men and years past, lighted up his thought and face and conversation so that one could not listen to him without feeling the weight of his strong and noble character. The funeral services were held at the home of his daughter, Mrs. LOUDEN, conducted by Rev. J. A. Boatman, pastor of the M. E. church. His remains were deposited in the Fairfield cemetery (sic - Evergreen Cemetery), there to await the resurection at the last day.
