Raymond M. CARL dies at 72

Raymond M. CARL, 72, former resident of Fairfield, died Sunday at 6:30 a.m.at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City (note: in Johnson Co., IA). Before entering the hospital, he had been a resident at the Ainsworth Care Center in Ainsworth.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the First Baptist Church. The Rev. James Battey and the Rev. Gregory Berkey will officiate.

Burial wil be in Evergreen Cemetery with military rites with the Raymond Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends this evening at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the intensive care unit of Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

Raymond M. CARL was born Feb. 9, 1913, in Jefferson County. He was the son of Bert and Bessie FORD CARL. He was reared in Libertyville and was a resident of Jefferson County all of his life.

He married Pauline G. SCHLARBAUM Jan. 11, 1941, in Lancaster, Mo. She died Aug. 24, 1968. CARL was a retired self-employed house painter.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Fairfield and the American Legion. CARL was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army Air Corps.

Survivors include two sons; Michael LANGAN, Columbus Junction, and Patrick CARL, Mariette, Geo.; a daughter, Angela HOFF, Ottumwa; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and one brother, Roy NELSON, Birmingham.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
