DROPPED DEAD LAST NIGHT
Joseph F. CARBAUGH Had Been Ill for Several Weeks, But Was Recovering

Joseph F. CARBAUGH, 705 West Stone street dropped dead from heart trouble last evening about 7 oclock while being helped from his chair into his bed room.

Mr. CARBAUGH was trampled by a cow the latter part of last November and had been bedfast until about two weeks ago. Just recently he had been able to be up and around the house some and yesterday he had felt unusually well and had written three letters. About 7 oclock last evening as he was sitting in his chair he called to his wife and asked her to help him into his bed. The attack came on him just as he arose and he fell over dead. A physician was immediately summoned but life was extinct.

The funeral services will be held tomorrow morning at 2 oclock from the family home in charge of Rev. R. H. Polly of the Christian church. Burial will take place in Evergreen cemetery. The K. P.'s will have charge of the services there.

Mr. CARBAUGH was born July 28, 1865, at Fairfield, where his entire life has been spent. He is survived by his wife, who was formerly Miss Etta FREEBERG (sic - FREEBURG). He also leaves his aged mother Mrs. Harriet CARBAUGH of this city. His father preceded him in death March 10, 1912. One sister Mrs. C. E. KRUGER (sic - KRUEGER) of Batavia also mourns his passing.

Mr. CARBAUGH had been in the employ of the postoffice since September 16, 1897 starting in as a mail clerk, and he was ever faithful and courteous in serving the public.

JOE CARBAUGH DIES UNEXPECTEDLY AFTER TWO MONTHS ILLNESS
Well Known Postal Employee Seemed On Road To Recovery On Day of Death.

Joseph F. CARBAUGH's death at his home in the northwest part of the city Tuesday evening came as a great shock to his relatives and many friends, who believed him to be on the road to recovery. On Tuesday afternoon he was able to be about the house some and wrote several letters, and told visitors that he would soon be back down town. News of his sudden death could hardly be credited by friends.

Mr. CARBAUGH was injured in the latter part of November, when a cow which he was leading knocked him over on some rocks and he suffered severe injuries. At no time was it thought these injuries would prove fatal, however.

Joe was the only son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard CARBAUGH, and was born in Fairfield, July 28, 1865. He had always made his home in this city.

On September 16, 1897, he entered the employ of the postal department as a city carrier. After serving several years, he was promoted to the position of mailing clerk, in which capacity he had served until his recent injuries.

In the postoffice, and elsewhere, Joe CARBAUGH made many friends, being ever considerate of the public whom he served. He was a loyal member of the Knights of Pythias and active in the work of that organization, particularly its fraternal activities.

On May 27, 1908, Mr. CARBAUGH was married to Miss Etta FRIEBERG (sic - FREEBURG). She, together with his mother, Mrs. Harriett CARBAUGH, and a sister. Mrs. C. E. KRUEGER, of Batavia, are the only near relatives surviving. His father died in 1912.

Funeral services will be held to day, Thursday, at two o'clock, conducted by Rev. R. H. Polly. the Knights of Pythias will have charge of the services at the cemetery.
