AUSTRILLA BUSH
Knowing much of her earlier life and having traveled with her through the long days and the wearisome nights of a long and wearing illness, we feel that it is only fitting that we should pay this tribute to her memory. At an age when most young people are enjoying the pleasure and privileges of youth she devoted three years of her life to the care of an invalid grandparent, later when a half brother needed someone to care for his motherless children, she left her home place and spent twelve years with him. After his accidental death she remained with the family as long as they needed her. Being skillful with the needle she conducted a dress-making shop at Kent, Iowa, for several years. Upon the death of her parents she returned here where with a brother and sister she helped to maintain the home wherein she died.
In 1920 she experienced a severe attack of illness that left her incapacitated for any active work but an intense lover of humanity she maintained an unusual interest in the joys, the pleasure and the sorrows of those about her and during all conscious moments kept in touch with the progress about her home. Realizing that the end might be near, she gave advice such as she thought might be of help to those left behind. Her chief concern being fo the (sic) loneliness of the vacant chair and for the trouble she felt she might have caused others during her long illness.
And while not having lived the maternal life we feel that she has done as much as most mothers and more than many and that she richly deserved all the care and attention bestowed upon her and now we leave her to rest.
