Death takes P. BUCHER

Peter BUCHER, 93, native of Jefferson County and a former farm mechanic, died at 9:40 p.m. Saturday at the Jefferson County Hospital.

Services will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the Behner Funeral Home with the Rev. Carl B. Riggs officiating. Memorail (sic) rites will be conducted by Clinton Lodge No. 15. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Family visitation will be 7 to 8 p.m. tonight, Monday, at the funeral home.

BUCHER was a thresherman back in the days when the steam engine was the major source of energy and traveled from farm to farm harvesting grain. In later years he was interested in Old Threshers at Mount Pleasant and was featured for his ability to balance a steam engine on a large teeter board.

He lived on a farm east of Fairfield for 62 years before moving to Fairfield four years ago. BUCHER was a member of the Bethesda Methodist Church, Modern Woodman, Elks, White Shrine, Clinton Lodge No. 15, Kaaba Temple, Fairfield Shrine Club and a 32nd Degree Mason.

Family visitation will be from 7 to 8 p.m. this evening at the funeral home.

Peter BUCHER was born Feb. 4, 1888, in Jefferson County. He was the son of Joseph and Emelie KILCHER BUCHER. He was married to Minnie McCORMICK Dec. 3, 1914, in Mount Pleasant. She died Oct. 13, 1968.

Survivors include a son, Clarence BUCHER, Perry; and a daughter, Dorothy ROBINSON, Fairfield; six grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Also one brother and six sisters: Edward BUCHER, Libertyville; Rosa BIEHL, Aurora, Ill.; Sopnie NELSON and Elizabeth NELSON, both of Fairfield; Laura FINEFIELD, Davenport; Ruth BUCHER, Chicago; and Lucille BUCHER, also of Chicago.

He was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.
